对于Vyvyan Evans，想必各位不行陌生。当年那一本超厚的（差不多有900页）Cognitive Linguistics: An Introduction (2006)曾令小编阅读压力很大。而近两年Evans走向通俗路线（通俗读物似乎不好写），前有2014年的Language Myth，今有年内计划出版的The Crucible of Language.后者便是今天的主角，小编暂译：《语言的熔炼》。出版社的官方简介大概是这样一个意思：
该书围绕语言的“意义”，通过浅显的文字阐述我们在语言使用中的所知和所行；语言意义如何产生、自何处来？语言意义的传递，又是如何令我们或悲戚落泪，或倍感无聊，或欢喜不已?
是的，无不突出“意义”的重要性。
